Students can enter works in each of the following categories:

(Please note: Only original artwork created independently by the student is allowed.)

 

 

• Dance Choreography  (click for rules)–

           

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY is the act of creating movement. The choreographer (student submitting entry) may be the performer or one of the performers, but the choreographer does not have to perform in the entry.

 

NOTE: 

~ Video must not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size.  

~ Cite background music (if any) on the student entry form.

~ Accepted video file formats include: AVI, MOV, MP4, WMV, and FLV. Save as a FILE and NOT a movie.

    

 

• Film/Video Production (click for rules) -

         

FILM PRODUCTION is the process of making a film. The producer (student submitting the entry) is not required to appear in the film but if the student chooses to, a camera tripod may be used. All screenwriting, directing, camera/filming and editing must be done by the student producer. PowerPoint presentations are prohibited.

 

NOTE: 

~ Video must not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size.  

~ Cite background music (if any) on the student entry form.

~ Accepted video file formats include: AVI, MOV, MP4, WMV, and FLV.

 

• Literature (click for rules) -

           

LITERATURE is the art of writing. The author (student submitting entry) is a person who expresses their own thoughts and ideas through the use of words. Authors submit a single literary work, handwritten or typed, using gradeappropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling. Collections of literary work (such as poems and short stories) are not accepted. 

 

NOTE:

~ Entry may be hand written or typed on 8.5”x11” paper.

~ Entry should be single sided.

~ Entry should include page numbers (if more than one page).

~ Entry may be illustrated, but will be judged on the written content. Graphic novels are acceptable.

~ Writing must not exceed 2,000 words. 

  

 

• Music Composition (click for rules) -

 

MUSIC COMPOSITION is the process of creating a new piece of music. The composer (student submitting entry) is a person who expresses their own thoughts and ideas through the use of sound. The student composer may submit an entry performed by an individual or group and/or make use of a sound library generated performance of a composed score. Student composers are not required to perform their composition. Middle and high school grade divisions require music score/tablature/notation, either traditional or tablature.

 

NOTE:

~ Audio recording must not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size.

~ Accepted audio file formats include: MP3, WMA, WAV, ACC (M4A), and FLAC. Save as a FILE and NOT a movie.

~ Notation is required for middle school and high school divisions only.

       

• Photography (click for rules) -

 

PHOTOGRAPHY is the process of creating an image. The photographer (student submitting entry) is a person who captures their own thoughts and ideas with a camera. By focusing on objects using various lenses, filters and light sources, photographers may demonstrate the use of photographic techniques conventionally or digitally.

 

NOTE: 

~ Print image MAY NOT be smaller than 3x5 inches and can be no larger than 8x10 inches.

~ Accepted print formats: Mounted on mat or poster board no larger than 11x14 inches.

~ Framed prints are not accepted.

~ Digital image dimensions must be at least 640x960 (pixels) and 300 dpi (resolution).

~ Accepted file formats: JPEG, JPG, GIF, PNG.

~ Check Visual Arts vs. Photography rules: Art with added graphics/lettering over the image must be entered as Visual Arts.

       

• Visual Arts (2D) (click for rules) -

 

VISUAL ARTS include many art forms that are visual in nature. The artist (student submitting entry) is a person who captures their own thoughts and ideas to create a visual piece of art.

 

NOTE:

-- Print MAY NOT be bigger than 24”x30” and 1/2” thickness, including matting.

 

• Visual Arts (3D) (click for rules) -

 

3D VISUAL ARTS include many art forms that are visual in nature. The artist (student submitting entry) is a person who captures their own thoughts and ideas to create a visual piece of art.

 Age/ Grade divisions:

 

• Primary: Pre-school through Grade 2

• Intermediate: Grades 3-5

• Special Artists: Children with learning challenges that qualify for ADA help.    Rules for Special Artist Entries can be found by clicking here.

 

Recognition:

 •    Each student who enters the contest receives a certificate and participation ribbon.

 •    Some entries will advance to the state level.

 •    All artwork will be displayed in Sunnycrest Elementary School when space permits.

 

Workshops:

 

Monday, October 14th from 3:45-5:00

Wednesday, October 16th from 3:45-5:00
